Taylor Memorial UMC 4th Annual Pre-Thanksgiving Meal Campaign

On Sunday November 18, 2018, Taylor Memorial United Methodist Church, under the leadership of Pastor Anthony Jenkins Sr. hosted its 4th annual Free Pre-Thanksgiving Meal in Oakland, California. The event was a smashing success and the goal of the event was reached, with over 1,000 free meals served to those in attendance.

Often, church administrations face numerous challenges when it comes to broadcasting a message to congregation members and the general public. The good news is that by adopting a marketing strategy and using multiple platforms to get the message across, your church can increase not only post engagement, but page likes and new congregation members.

The Pre-Thanksgiving event’s goal needed to be accomplished within a limited timeframe, and the strategy involved a targeted marketing campaign that combined several different platforms to spread the message across Oakland and the surrounding area.

Read more about how you can adopt these strategies to host a similar event, in a short period of time and with a very small budget.

About the Event and Challenge

The Pre-Thanksgiving meal event is an annual event hosted by Taylor Memorial UMC every year to do its part in tackling the issue of homelessness in Oakland and the surrounding Alameda area. The challenge for this campaign was to reach a large number of people with a limited timeframe and budget, as we had only two weeks to get the message across.

To tackle the challenge, you should develop a marketing strategy that involves a little bit of research as to what platforms your audience uses most, who your target audience actually is, and the message that you’re trying to convey. For example, Taylor UMC’s strategy involved identifying relevant audience and reaching the people who would be most interested most in the event. To do this, the church used Facebook ads, Event Brite, and press releases to inform their target audience about the event.

You can choose different platforms based on the behavior of your congregation, or who you’d like to target. For example, of you’re looking to attract youth to your event, you can use Instagram, or even Snapchat. Since Taylor’s audience mostly used Facebook, it made the most impact there – and yielded fantastic results.

Structure and Strategy

  1. Eventbrite.com
  2. Facebook
  3. Press Release

Eventbrite.com

The first strategy included creating an event on EventBrite.com. You can use Eventbrite regardless of whether you have a paid or free admission, and it can be one way in which you can market your event to the public.

Eventbrite has promotional tools that churches like yours can use, and it can be used to link the event to some social media platforms, like Facebook for example. Taylor uses Eventbrite to market several different events, and you can follow a similar strategy and monitor whether the event you are marketing is reaching people through that platform.

Facebook

The event saw the most interactions and reach with the targeted Facebook ad campaign that was established for the event. With a budget of $391.84, the posts reached thousands of people over a two-week period. For churches like yours, these percentages are invaluable and may help you increase your reach and congregation members.

Frankly speaking, and despite the budget constraints that plague many a church nowadays, one must consider taking the paid advertisement route because they do lead to results. The church budget does not have to be a lot, but make sure you are targeting the right people, and interact with those who ask questions on posts.

For this event, Taylor UMC marketed the ads to the relevant target audience of the church, and in a matter of hours the post started gaining traction and engagement. At the end of the campaign, the engagement levels of the page increased by 660% with 2,043 engagements. The interactions on the Facebook ad were overwhelmingly positive and comments and shares started to pour in. Facebook admins for the church responded to each and every comment or query that was made on the post, and they also invited every individual who interacted to like the Taylor Memorial UMC Facebook page. Do not underestimate the power of inviting people to like your page. Although it is a manual process, if churches serious about growing their audience on Facebook, this is the way to go. Although as a standalone action, it certainly isn’t the only way to get page likes but it is an often overlooked part of the process. At the end of this campaign, the event reached a total of 15,758 people with 20,100 impressions and 1,603 post interactions, increasing Taylor UMC’s Facebook followers by 8,100%.

Your church can benefit from percentages such as these, and even more. It all depends on how you manage your marketing campaign and how you respond to those who express interest in or interact with your page.

Press Release

Press releases are still an important part of a marketing strategy, and especially one that is aimed towards benefitting the community and helping those in need. For churches in particular, they can be helpful because they increase coverage for your events and make the general public aware of your activities.  PR Bonus – 5 Free eBooks ($67 Value)

By plugging in a press release through erelease.com, details of the Pre-Thanksgiving event were blasted to several local news stations and event websites that expressed interest in the event. As a result of the press release, a number of local news channels and online event sites covered the event live while other platforms broadcasted the activities of the church through blog posts.

Results

The Pre-Thanksgiving Meal event marketed and promoted by Taylor Memorial United Methodist Church was able to serve 1,000 meals to those in attendance and helped those in need.

Imagine what your church can do if it applies a targeted marketing campaign that is focused on attracting as many relevant people as possible. It doesn’t take a lot of money or time, but the results your campaign can yield are invaluable and can be an incentive for people to be more involved in your church. Taylor UMC’s Facebook page experienced a whopping 11,762% increase in the number of people it usually reaches and its pageviews increased by 129%.

All of this was accomplished with a relatively small budget, and in a short period of time. Using a marketing strategy and with a purpose that helps the community, churches can use several different platforms to gain followers and spread their message to their target audience, increasing followers, fans, and congregation members at the same time.

Mailchimp vs Constant

The two most well-known and popular email marketing platforms in the industry today are Constant Contact and Mailchimp.

At first glance, both are pretty similar and the differences between them are minor in terms of functionality and features. But even slight differences can impact the delivery of your message and your email marketing strategy, so you need to choose the one that works best for you.

We’ve performed a comprehensive review of both Mailchimp and Constant Contact, used them both extensively, and highlighted the pros and cons of each platform to determine which one is best.

The verdict?

We love Mailchimp, but Constant Contact is definitely the better email marketing platform at the moment for most businesses and startups – with room for some adjustments that we’ve mentioned below.

Our results were based on a comparison of the features, user interface, support, pricing, reputation, client satisfaction and the overall industry performance of each platform.

Our goal is to help you find the information you need to determine whether Mailchimp or Constant Contact is the right platform for your business.

  1. Template and Design Features
  2. Analytics and Reporting
  3. Deliverability and Performance
  4. Pricing
  5. Support and Knowledge Base

Here’s some quick stats before we get started

Constant Contact Mail Chimp
Established 1995 2001
Headquarters Waltham, Massachusetts Atlanta, Georgia
Revenue $332 million $400 million
Employees 1,235 + 550+
Customers 5 million 14 million
Type Public Company Private Company
  1. Template and Design Features

Both Constant Contact and Mailchimp have many pre-designed email templates to choose from, and you can import your own custom-built html templates to both platforms.

Constant Contact has more templates than Mailchimp, and they are generally designed better and considered readier to send as opposed to Mailchimp because they are occasion-based. Constant Contact also has more design features and elements that can save you time when you’re customizing your email templates, such as offering its users a free professional image gallery from Bigstock and intuitive editing tools. That makes up for its storage space of 1- 2GB, which is a slight downside as opposed to Mailchimp, that lets you store as many images as you want but has no image gallery.

If that feature is important to you and you would like to use more images than the allotted 5 from Constant Contact, you can upload them on your hosting site and link them to your template. Constant Contact also includes contact management features, and a WYSIWYG editor for email templates that Mailchimp does not offer in its editing options.

Features Constant Contact Mailchimp
More Templates Yes
Better Design Yes
Image Gallery Yes
Unlimited Storage Space Yes
Intuitive Design Yes
WYSIWYG Editor Yes
Which is better? Yes
  1. Tracking Tools

Both Mailchimp and Constant Contact allow users to integrate Google Analytics to track their emails, offer split A/B testing (relatively recent on Constant Contact’s part), message segmentation and click-tracking stats though the platform. In terms of differences, one key element that Mailchimp has that Constant Contact doesn’t is the geo tracking feature that lets you target people in different countries. Constant Contact has better tracking tools and features, such as a predictive analytics and real time reports. Constant Contact also has a heatmap feature for more visual users, that shows campaign managers where users are clicking the most. Another strong and unique feature that Constant Contact has that Mailchimp doesn’t is the mobile open rate feature that allows you to see how many people accessed your message from mobile as opposed to desktop, which is useful because you’ll be able to focus on creating campaigns for the platform that your target audience is accessing you from the most.

Features Constant Contact Mailchimp
Geo Tracking Yes
Google Analytics Integration Yes Yes
Access Platform Segmentation Yes
Click Tracking Yes Yes
Heatmap Yes
Predictive Analytics Yes
Comparative Analytics Yes Yes
Which is better? Yes
  1. Deliverability and Performance

What we love about Constant Contact is that the people in charge listen to complaints and do something about it. One of the biggest complaints from previous users of the Constant Contact platform was that it didn’t provide automation services that for example, allowed people to send customized happy birthday messages to their clients. This has now been remedied, and automation is now a service offered by the platform. Another complaint was that Constant Contact wasn’t integrative with other platforms that campaign managers worked with, such as Shopify or Salesforce. This has also now been added to the Constant Contact platform, and it can be integrated to other major platforms such as Facebook, WordPress, Shopify, QuickBooks, Hootsuite and Salesforce. Their deliverability rate is almost identical, so they are both strong performers in this arena. What Constant Contact does have going for it is a slightly higher deliverability rate and a larger click through-rate than Mailchimp. This is most likely because it’s been around the block – Constant Contact has been in the email marketing industry since 1995, and marketing material sent through it is less likely to be labelled as spam and go to the junk mail folder. It can stand to be more user friendly however, as Constant Contact isn’t as user-friendly as Mailchimp.

Features Constant Contact Mailchimp
Integration Yes Yes
Automation Yes Yes
Higher Deliverability Yes
Higher Click Through Rate Yes
Ease of Use Yes
Which is better? Yes
  1. Pricing

Mailchimp has three types of fixed payment plans and a pay as you go plan. In terms of the fixed plans, there’s the Free Plan, the Grow Plan, and the Pro Plan. Mailchimp promises its Free Plan users that it will always stay free, for life, if they have less than 2,000 subscribers and are fine with sending out no more than 12,000 emails per month. The Grow Plan starts at $10/month for sending unlimited emails to up to 500 subscribers. To send an unlimited number of emails to up to 2,000 subscribers, the Grow Plan’s price jumps to $25 / month. The Pro Plan is the do-all of Mailchimp’s packages, that have premium support, advanced segmentation tools, comparative reporting, and multivariate testing.

MailChimp Price Subscribers emails
Free Plan $0 2,000 12,000
Grow Plan $10 – $25/mo. Unlimited Unlimited with limited features
Pro Plan $199+/mo. Unlimited Unlimited + extra features

Constant Contact doesn’t offer a free plan, and may seem initially more expensive, but it offers heavy discounts and plans for different types of businesses, like franchises and associations, an option that Mailchimp doesn’t have.

Constant Contact also gives you free access to its platform for two months, giving you plenty of time to make up your mind. You’re also never tied into a contract with them, and you can always cancel at any time. Constant contact has two different pricing plans, the Email Plan and the Email Plus plan.

Constant Contact Email Plan Price
0-500 contacts $20
501-2,500 contacts $45/mo.
2,501 – 5,000 $65/mo.
5,001 – 10,000 $95/mo.

Constant Contact Email Plus Plan Price
0-500 contacts $45
501-2,500 contacts $70/mo.
2,501 – 5,000 $95/mo.
5,001 – 10,000 $125/mo.

The Email Plus plan has a lot of extra features, such as dynamic forms, 2GB of storage, event marketing, multiple user access, online donation features, surveys and polls, and lots more.

Mailchimp can definitely afford to offer cheaper and free plans given its massive number of users, so quality vs. quantity is key when you’re making your final decision as to which platform works better for you. Mailchimp is cheaper initially and has more users than Constant Contact.

Constant Contact costs more but is more select in its services and has more experience in the market. What your needs are determine the best platform for you.

  1. Support and Knowledge Base

Both Mail chimp and Constant Contact have solid knowledge bases on their websites and information centers, video tutorials, and more.

Other than what the actual platforms put out there, there are tons of user tutorials, video guides, YouTube channels, and discussion forums that are specifically made for users, by users of these platforms.

But when it comes to getting direct, professional help from the experts themselves, Constant Contact shines in this department by employing dedicated support teams that you can actually call and speak to when you’re encountering an issue.

Mailchimp only offers email and chat options, and that’s just for the first month if you’re a non-paying user with the free plan. Constant Contact has award-winning customer support that even the most dedicated Mailchimp users acknowledge as better.

The Result

Constant Contact is the better choice and stronger, higher quality platform in our comparison than Mailchimp.

While we definitely think that the team at Constant Contact can do better to make its platform more visually appealing, the features and experience working with a company that’s been doing this since well, the real birth of the internet is hard to beat.

One thing that we’ve noticed about Constant Contact while doing our research is that it listens to criticism and makes up for what it lacks. We’re pretty confident that Constant Contact will address those issues and will continue to be the leading platform in the email marketing industry.

A Breakdown Of A Little-known But Important Set Of Marketing Tools Offered By Google

If you work for or manage a nonprofit organization, you’re certainly aware of the challenges that come hand-in-hand with stretching a limited budget versus trying to reach more people. Google recognizes these challenges and offers five premium marketing features for free under its little-known but very useful program for qualifying NPOs called Google for Nonprofits.

Google for Nonprofits is an online membership program that allows NPOs in over 51 countries to use premium Google marketing and analytics services at no cost. They include G-Suite, Ad Grants, Google Analytics, the YouTube Nonprofit Program, Google Earth and Maps, and Google donation tools

Major nonprofits throughout the world including UNICEF, the Jane Goodall Institute, The Van Gogh Museum and Special Olympics are just some of the organizations that are currently enrolled in Google for Nonprofits.

Google claims that their program can help NGOs spread their message more efficiently by providing tools that optimize fundraising strategies and allow teams to cloud-connect across the globe. Organizations such as Direct Relief International show that it can deliver, with a 44% year-over-year increase in online donations and a 6,000% increase in website traffic after becoming a Google grantee.

The caveat is that not all NGOs qualify for the membership program, and it’s not available in all countries. Google requires you to be validated by TechSoup or a local TechSoup partner in order for them to consider your organization’s membership, but what is TechSoup?

There are specific requirements that need to be met in order for nonprofit organizations to be eligible for the membership program, and they differ based on country of operation. What is common among the requirements however is that the NGOs cannot be:

  • Governmental entities or organizations
  • Hospitals or healthcare organizations
  • Schools, academic institutions, or universities

For a full list of eligibility requirements by country, click here.

Google for Nonprofits can help you streamline your NGO’s operations and facilitate communication between teams. It also positively impacts your donation strategy. Here’s how:

G-Suite

When becoming members, nonprofits have access to a collection of collaborative productivity apps called G-Suite (formerly Google Apps). It includes Google Drive, Gmail, Google Calendar, Hangouts, and Google Docs. Google for Nonprofits offers G-Suite Basic which usually costs $50.00 / year or $5.00 per month.

G-Suite makes it easier to connect with teams that don’t work in the same place by facilitating the flow of information through real-time cloud collaboration. Members get 30GB If storage and their information can be accessed all on one secure place. Google also offers 24/7 assistance if you need support or run into any problems.

Google Ad Grants

A pretty generous and great feature that’s provided by Google for Nonprofits is Ad Grants, where qualifying NGO’s are granted $10,000 worth of in-kind advertising every month to advertise on Google. The grant helps your organization reach tens of thousands of new people, positively impacting your web traffic and increasing donations towards your cause.

To qualify for Ad Grants, NGOs must apply to Google Nonprofits and have lawful charity status in their country of origin. The organization must also meet Google’s certification requirements that center on non-discrimination and donation use, in addition to having a solid website with substantial content.

YouTube Nonprofit Program

Some nonprofits rely heavily on the use of video to convey their message, but Google has taken it to another level with its YouTube Nonprofit Program. The feature allows nonprofits to include donation cards on videos and YouTube doesn’t take any transaction fees when viewers donate, so all proceeds go to your cause.

If your organization has over a thousand YouTube subscribers, you even get access to YouTube Space, a professional production studio that’s available for creators and advertisers and located in major cities around the world. The Space holds events and hosts workshops, with the added bonus of being a great place to network and build partnerships.

Google Earth and Maps

Google Earth and Maps is a feature for organizations that want to project data visualizations to their audience and shows people where the organization has made a visual impact. It can be used to connect people to resources in their surrounding area and allows organizations to add 360-degree imagery of their location.

The Donor Maps feature for example shows your donors how much they’ve made a difference in a particular area, and how their efforts have benefitted this area which encourages them to do more towards that cause.

Donation Tools

The Donation Tools feature that’s included with Google for Nonprofits helps organizations increase their donations by connecting them to their audience. With easy-to-use tools and sharing options, NGOs are able to share their message with a wider audience and create targeted campaigns on social media platforms of their choice.

Organizations also get access to the One Today App, an application that features different nonprofit projects every day and shares their cause to a larger audience. It’s a fantastic way to be exposed to more people and increase your organization’s reach.

Our Take

More than just a cloud-based system, the services and features available through Google for Nonprofits can give your organization the extra boost that it needs to reach more people, streamline your operations, and most importantly – make a stronger impact towards your cause.

Google for Nonprofits truly does provide a valuable set of tools and services that NGOs can use. It allows nonprofits to benefit from the marketing and advertising options that are available to them from the world’s most popular search engine and make a difference in the world today.

Understanding Google’s Local 3-Pack

When Google changed its local listing layout from a 7-pack to a 3-pack format called the Snack Pack, there were concerns about how this change would affect local businesses. Google removed the last four listings in local results because they weren’t getting a lot of traffic, but the main purpose was to make the listings look and function better on mobile. Google is aware of the devices that are being used to search for businesses, and since mobile dominates in that field, it would naturally want to stay ahead of the game and give users a good experience.

Since the 2016 update, businesses have adjusted to the Snack Pack and use a variety of methods to stay ahead through factors that affect their local SERP rankings. Below, you’ll find a full guide to understanding Google’s local 3-pack, and how to feature your business on local search displays.

Why Did Google Change to the 3-Pack Display?

Since Google is increasingly focused the mobile user experience, the 7 Pack needed to be more helpful and visually pleasing. As you can see below, the old format was too large to fit onto one page on mobile devices. With the new format, the results are now much clearer and look better, with a map that shows users where the business is located.

google 3 pack

The new pack also looks consistent regardless of device, and as shown below, is just enough to function as the first page in a SERP for someone performing a local search on a smartphone.

google 7 pack mobile

Rather than highlighting business mobile numbers, what you see now are business hours and addresses. There’s also a mobile tap button (the call button) that can be directly used that’s replaced previously only seeing the number. There are a few broader changes that have been made as well, like Google+ no longer factoring into page rank. The SERPs may still display ratings from reviews on Google+ pages, but having an active account isn’t necessary anymore. Algorithms are increasingly geared towards favoring activity on local search directories.

How to Feature Your business Website on the Google Local 3-Pack

Make Sure Your Information is Accurate and Consistent

Featuring your business on one of the three coveted local listing spots is doable, and not as hard as some people might think it is. The first thing you need to consider is the consistency of your business information throughout the web. Your business name, address, phone number, and email are a great way to start. Google places a lot of emphasis on accuracy and consistency when it comes to delivering information to the end user.

Be Active on Local Listings and Directories

Being active on local listings sites and directories is a key factor that determines your visibility in local search results. The higher your Domain Authority listing is, the more likely it is that Google will trust your business and make it visible. Google is as successful as it is because it’s the main purpose is to give users the most relevant results to their queries. Google rewards websites that adhere to its ever-changing standards. The higher your Domain Authority is, the better it will be for your website.

Make Sure Your Website is Mobile-responsive

Mobile-responsive websites are a requirement today for businesses to be relevant both to users and search engines. If your website isn’t mobile-friendly, you’re going to lose business and exposure so responsiveness is a must in your efforts to be recognized by Google algorithms. The “Mobilegeddon” update by Google tweaked rankings so that responsive pages were pushed to the top of mobile search results. If your website is responsive, then you’ll have a better chance of being featured in Google’s local 3-pack.

Local search and mobility are two aspects of SEO work that take their cue from Google’s overall strategy. To have a better chance of showing up in 3-pack listings, start adjusting your website and making sure your website has a responsive design. Always keep an eye out for any future algorithm updates and adjust as you go along. You can stay ahead of your competitors by monitoring their websites and finding the keywords that they use to rank (use Seo Powersuite, Rankpay and SEOrush for that).

Regardless of how you choose to approach them, Google algorithm updates and layout changes are done for a reason and the more flexible you can be in adjusting to them, the less time you’ll spend panicking over how an update may affect your business and more time learning how to make sure you use that update to your advantage.

What is google Guarantee Program (Home Service Ads Program)

Google has come up with a new advertising program added to it’s Google tools, which will effect a lot of local businesses and could change the way of how local businesses have to think about advertising. The new approach to advertisement is called Google’s Home Services, or Google Guarantee Program. This program is designed to connect users with home-service providers. Couple of years ago the Beta Version was released for some Professions in limited Locations around USA such as (California: San Francisco, San Diego, San Francisco Bay Area, Sacramento and Stockton, check recent introduced cities). In this article I will highlight:

  1. What changed?
  2. How Will “Google Guarantee” Effect User experience
  3. How does it work?
  4. How “Google Guarantee Program” Effects SEO
  5. How Will “Google Guarantee” Effect Local Business
  6. How to Prepare Your Online Business for “Google Guarantee Program”
  7. Business effected by Google “Home Service Ads Program”
  8. Why is google changing its Marketing Strategy and How Will Google Benefit?

  1. What Changed?

If we make a simple search for the term “plumber in San Francisco” we will find a google guaranteed badge next to the listing on google, this new badge tend to attract more leads because Google guarantee this provider.

What’s interesting is that if you click on google guaranteed icon, google will redirect you to a new type of search, where you can find more qualified guaranteed service providers for the requested job. Not only you get a list of all the guaranteed local business in the area, additional you’ll find a google guarantee snip-it which reads “Providers with this badge are pre-screened and insured. Get the job done right or your money back”.

To be part of the Google Guarantee Program, Google requires all guaranteed providers to undergo a series of screening procedures and meet a certain criteria, including background checks, verification of insurance and licenses, online reputation audits, and interviews, to the extent permitted by applicable law.

Those with the “Google Guaranteed” badge have been carefully screened and have paid Google to appear in these search results. Those without the badge may have been less extensively screened and haven’t paid Google to appear”.

google home service ads on mobile

Home Service ads experience on mobile (as shown in the image above). Just like desktop, the mobile search ads dominate the top of the results page. Google My Business and organic listings are pushed down the page and even requires scrolling reach the organic listing section.

  1. How Will Google Guarantee” Effect User experience

If a user booked a service through Local Service with a Google Guaranteed Vendor, and the user ended up not satisfied with the quality of service, Google covers claims up to the cost of the initial service, with a lifetime cap of $2,000.

  1. How does it work?

google grantee image google grantee Ads Program google grantee home service Ads google grantee home Ads Program google grantee Program google article

After the user submit a search query, Google will offer several businesses simultaneously (as shown in image 1), If the user clicked on the service provider title, then google will redirect them to a page with additional details about this business were they can check the reviews, description, business hours and more (as shown in image 4 & 5). If the users click on Google Grantee badge then Google wil provider a list of more ‘plumbers’, they’ll be redirected to a page that encourages them to request quotes from 3 different service providers. This program is essentially Google’s answer to sites like Craigslist List and Angie’s List, creating an environment where users have access to a variety of pre-qualified service providers, free of charge.

Once the user has selected their three potential service providers, they’ll be redirected to a form to help simplify the quote process between the user and the provider by answering questions like “What needs to be done?”, “The Scope of the Word” and “What are the requirements?” etc.

  1. How Google Guarantee Program Effects SEO

  • Google Guarantee Area

You will notice the Green Check with “Google Guaranteed”, you cannot miss it, this will be the first impression on the user, and this means two things.

  1. No one without this guarantee will be shown.
  2. No matter how good you’re on-site SEO is… it won’t get you verified or listed.
  • Google Ads Section

Google Adwords section

The paid ads section which used to be on the top of each search page, now dropped under the Google Guaranteed ads section to be positioned second based to the new google search results alignment.

  • The 3-Pack Section

Google 3 pack

As you can see in the picture above, the 3-pack on google search page didn’t change, it was moved down a bit. Google is still maintaining the 3 organic ranking potions on the Google local 3 pack section on it’s first page, in addition the paid ads section. Keep in mind that these two sections are managed from different locations, Google My Business is use to manage your presence on google 3-pack while on Google Ad-words Express which host “Google Guarantee Program” allow you to adjust your listings on Google Guarantee Program section . Learn more about Google 3-pack and how you can utilize it to increase traffic to your website.

  • The organic Listing Area

Google listing

The Listing section has been pushed down as well, due to the additional space occupied by Google Guarantee Program section, which makes the organic results fall out of the above the fold section.

  1. How Google Guarantee Will Effect Local Business

No doubt that Google will succeed in connecting high-quality service providers with potential clients as google rolls this program to different locations. Apparently from the reviews that I’ve read, the Businesses who have got a Google Guaranteed certification have got about 1800% growth in leads. As compared to other vendors who are just advertising normally, but on the other hand Google now charges for the click and lead based to Google also charges for leads.

  • With Home Service ads, Businesses now will charge for leads from customers that choose your business.
  • Businesses can set a cap budget that limits the total number of leads per week.
  • Read more on Local Service by Google Terms and Conditions

With Google not being shy on putting the full focus on the CTR (click through rate) of your ads, every small business owner needs to focus on preparing their online business for the Home Services program.

  1. How to Prepare Your Online Business for Google Guarantee Program

If you are a small businesses owner and you want to be ready for the global Google Home Services Ads Program release, you’ll need to re-assess your online presence and your business relation with Google search engine. Here is a list that will get you started.

Enhancing Amp pages will increase the speed and mobile-readiness of your website which are high-quality ranking distinctions that determine the placement of a site’s content link in the search engine results pages (SERPs). The faster a site is, and the more it caters to mobile devices, the more likely it is to be seen and clicked on by Google search users.

  • Make sure Google My Business is Claimed

Before you question yourself what does Google My Business has to do with Google Home Services Ads Program, rest assure there is no relation, but if you managed to run both you’ll have the benefit of appearing on both Home Service section and Maps which is a Win-win situation and dual ways to increase traffic to your website.

  • Paid Search

If you are using paid search with Google Ads, or Google Ad-words Express, start making the necessary adjustments before the Home Services program was initiated nationwide. Here is a list that will walk you through what you need to take into consideration.

  1. What is your online business reputation?
  2. How many online reviews do you have?
  3. How well optimized is your website for local business?
  4. What CRM (customer relationship management) software do you have in place to respond to customer quotes rapidly?
  5. Search for competitor in your area and check their status
  • Focus on your Brand Identity and Niche

Home Service ads are far from a typical paid search on google, this is why I’m bringing Branding into this subject. Remember now, google is taking online reputation into consideration when it comes to Home Service rankings, the stronger your brand is, the better.

  • Sign up for Google Guaranteed Today!

Ten Ways To Promote Your Website And Increase Sales

Let’s say you’ve worked pretty hard on your website, and you’ve taken what you thought were all the right steps to create a successful, results-driven online business. But months have passed and it still hasn’t generated any revenue – what do you do now?

It’s all about understanding your visitors, and the methods that you use to keep people engaged with your business.

To increase sales, you need to drive high quality, targeted traffic to your website. We’ve compiled a list of the top ten ways you can attract visitors to your website, with the goal of helping you grow your traffic consistently over time.

  1. Quality Content and Reviews
  2. Coupons & Discounts
  3. Display and Re-targeting
  4. E-mail Marketing
  5. Loyalty and Cashback
  6. Search Engine Optimization
  7. Social Media
  8. VAR/Reseller
  9. Pay Per Click (PPC)
  10. Affiliate Programs

  1. Quality Content and Interaction

No matter what anyone tells you, Content truly is King and that’s why it’s at the beginning of this list. People are interested in and seek quality content that gives them value every time they use a search engine. When they benefit from valuable content, they are more likely to come back and become regular visitors, and you start to establish a relationship with them.

Other than your audience, search engines want to stay ahead of their competition and to do that, they have to yield quality search results based on what people are searching for. If your website content is spammy or generally of low quality, people won’t be interested and in some cases, you might get penalized by search engines.

Keep your content relevant, valuable, and engaging. Interaction with your audience is also very important in establishing a relationship with your audience. Allow them to leave comments and contact you directly if they have concerns, answer them and be part of a discussion. This level of involvement paired with quality content is a surefire way to increase traffic, get people talking about your business.

  1. Coupons & Discounts

A successful strategy of offering coupons or discounts on your services or products can definitely encourage your visitors to purchase them and can be a way to build client loyalty. By using this method sparingly, you can push stock and increase your conversion rate. It’s also especially useful when you’re looking to attract new clients that have never used your services before.

A word of caution – offering discounts is a tricky process because you don’t want to cause harm to your brand or worse, devalue your products/services. You also don’t want to decrease your profit for a long period of time, or only have customers wait for your price markdown. Striking a good balance is key when you’re offering discounts, so use this tool wisely.

  1. Display and Re-targeting

Cookies are your friend, especially when it comes to the retargeting marketing method that helps businesses with their branding and conversion rate. This form of marketing uses cookies, that stay in a user’s browser as they surf the web and re-expose those visitors to your brand after they’ve left your site.

Since a very low percentage of people purchase a product or service on their first visit (estimates are lower than 5%), you can use retargeting to display what they were looking at already. People are already familiar with your brand when they are being retargeted, so it’s a great advertising tool because your ads are being seen by a relevant audience who have already indicated that they were interested in your services.

The ad acts as a gentle visual reminder to the client that they were looking at your product/service at one time. Seeing your product displayed again may prompt them to visit your site and this time, make a purchase.

  1. E-mail Marketing

E-mail marketing is still a very important way to build a relationship with your target audience and keep them up to date with the latest products or services that you have to offer. E-mail marketing is still quite effective, with an average deliverability rate of 98% and is used by virtually all age groups that advertisers/marketers target. With over half of people using the internet reporting that they open their inboxes daily, it can be a powerful tool to use to gain more traffic.

You can use one of the many e-mail marketing platforms that are in the market today such as Constant Contact or MailChimp. With an effective e-mail marketing strategy, businesses can send their users the latest news and offers as well as convince them to buy products immediately.

  1. Loyalty and Cashback

You should always incentivize your customers to come back and use your products and services. Building loyalty for your brand should also be a strategy that you apply to retain your online customers. Creating loyalty programs is one way that you can build this brand loyalty, and acts as a “reward” for your clients for their continued business.

You also have the option of working with cashback sites, which are sites that link directly to your products or services. These types of websites then send the customer cash back after they have made the purchase, which further incentivizes them to either shop more themselves or send other customers your way.

Developing a loyalty program that is based on a strategy of keeping the client “coming back for more” is key to your online business. Take the time to understand how your audience behaves and what products they like most. You can even create different programs based on client groups, and offer each group different products or services.

  1. Search Engine Optimization

Everybody is familiar with the term SEO nowadays, but not all SEO strategies are implemented correctly and this can affect your website’s performance. SEO is important for your business and website because it allows people who are looking for the things that you offer find you, simply put. In a sea of millions of websites, a large chunk of those websites is statistically similar to yours. What differentiates your business from theirs is the way you implement your SEO strategy.

SEO isn’t just about keywords, it’s about making it easy for people to actually find your website. To do that, search engines must be able to crawl your site without encountering any errors that slow it down. Your site also needs to be indexed easily, load quickly, and be appropriately labeled and tagged.

Don’t cut corners when it comes to SEO because you can be penalized. Always make sure to apply white-hat SEO strategies, or hire a reputable company to do that for you if you’re having trouble. It’ll be well worth the investment once your traffic increases and you show up better in search results.

  1. Social Media

Social media is one of the most powerful tools that your business has to generate interest in your product or service. It’s a cost-effective way to interact and engage with your audience and generate awareness about your brand. You can even hit the jackpot if a video of your product goes viral, which can generate massive interest and take your business to a new level.

One example of how social media can change your business is the viral rainbow bagel video that made the small Brooklyn-based bagel shop Williamsburg Bagel a household name. After it’s viral social media video that was watched by millions around the world, the store actually closed for a couple of weeks to undergo renovations as it could no longer accommodate the massive number of clients due to high demand.

Social media platforms are a great way to reach new clients and build your customer base, but make sure that you’re using the appropriate platform and implementing a strategy, not just winging it. You might need to hire a social media manager who can answer questions and monitor your social media presence, engaging customers and managing multiple accounts.

  1. VAR/Re-seller

One way to get others to market your business is through the use of resellers. Resellers usually buy the product or service that you are offering and resell it at a price markup. This option usually applies to businesses that offer their products in wholesale.

A lot of people would rather make money selling products that they don’t have to make themselves, and many are specialized in certain niches or live in places where the product they sell is in demand.

If your business model can work with applying a re-seller strategy, it can help with your bottom line. Companies like Lululemon for example, use the re-seller strategy as one way to market their products.

  1. Pay Per Click (PPC)

Pay-Per-Click or PPC is when you bid for ad placement in major search engines and pay anytime a user clicks on your ad. The upside is that a lot of people are going to be seeing your ads. A downside is that it can be expensive, but can yield substantial results if you have the budget for it.

Pay-Per-Click is a useful and effective tool that most businesses should get into at some point because it helps them gain exposure when people are looking for services or products that match theirs. Simply put, you need to spend money to make money but with the right PPC strategy, people will find your business more and you’ll start making money.

It does take a well-crafted strategy to see those results or you’ll be wasting your money, so make sure that you know how to select the right keywords, launch campaigns at the most appropriate times, and understand what behavior search engines reward (which can lead to you paying less money in the long run). Google for example, charges you less money if you have quality content (another reason why that’s was the top of the list).

  1. Affiliate Marketing

Affiliate marketing is a popular way that companies are now promoting their products and services. In affiliate marketing, you are considered the merchant or vendor whose products are promoted by a publisher, or an affiliate, who will promote your product to their network/audience. In turn, the affiliate receives a commission on sales as a result of this promotion.

Affiliate marketing is used by countless businesses whether they are start-ups or major corporations, with great results. Affiliate marketing can cost very little or can be quite expensive. This is based on the influencer/publisher’s popularity and the percentage that you’re going to be paying to the affiliate.

Brands understand the power of this form of marketing, which is why celebrities for example are often gifted free luxury products if they promote it by simply wearing it in a Snapchat or Instagram post. There are different types of affiliate marketing platforms and methods and the affiliate can be a website as opposed to a person. The concept however, remains the same in that your product is being promoted by a party other than you.

Check out top affiliate portals in the market.

Conclusion

Rule of thumb: Traffic = leads, sales, and a thriving business. There are a lot of things that you can do to attract traffic nowadays, and it depends on the nature of your business and how willing you are to invest in it. Building a rapport with your audience and establishing a dedicated client base can take time, but it will be well worth your money and effort. By implementing one (or more) of these techniques the next time you’re seriously thinking about how to increase your traffic, you’ll be well on your way to generating the views you need.

Data from My personal Facebook page

  1. Commenting on Blogs and Forums

Never comment on blogs and forums just so that you can promote your own material. Nowadays, people see right through this tactic and do not appreciate leeching off of their hard work. The key is to build a strategy where you become relevant in your field and are considered a knowledgeable and welcome guest whose contribution is valued. That will get more people interested than openly displaying your site or blog URI in the comment section without any substance to back up your contribution. To find the best blogs to post a comment on, check the blog’s D.A (A highly relevant back-link that has SEO value). Once you locate the most relevant blogs with the highest D.A, set up Google Alerts to be notified as soon as a post is made and you can be the first to see the material and comment on it, which gives you a lot of exposure both to the author and other people who will comment as well.

  1. E-mail Signatures

An e-mail signature is a block of text that’s found at the end of an e-mail message. Each business e-mail you send should include a professional e-mail signature on the bottom. I recommend a maximum e-mail signature width of 650 pixels and a maximum height of  90 – 150 pixels for any. Examples of what to include in your signature are your contact information (email, phone number, address), your website link, and your position. Keep it simple and professional.

  1. Social Media Bookmarking

Users save links to web pages that they like or want to share, using social bookmarking sites to store links that they can share with others and refer to later. Social news sites focus on specific articles and blogs while others like Reddit and HackerNews focus on social bookmarking of news-related items such as politics, sports, technology, etc.

  1. Press Releases

Small businesses and startups don’t usually require press releases to advertise their services, but you may find yourself needing them at some point in the future. Some free resources to submit press releases are Free Press Release , E-release.com, or 24Pressrealease.com.  You can use them to generating backlinks as well.

  1. Video sharing

Make sure you are making the most out of the world’s largest organic traffic source – videos. People love visual content and the proof is in the numbers. An estimated 78 percent of U.S. internet users preferred to watch video to other visual content. Video has a lot of potential and can be used to convert leads to customers. Using a well-placed video on your landing page can increase your conversion rate by 80%, according to EyeWideDigital. If you’re not on platforms like YouTube, Vimeo or other similar video sharing websites, you should start a channel of your own. You may even want to consider to register for a Pro-account, and get a 30-day head start by using powerful video creator tools.

  1. Podcasts

Podcasting is a form of audio broadcasting on the Internet. Adam Curry is credited with the invention of podcasting in 2004. Podcasts can help boost website traffic when you present value that people want to tune in to listen to. This may not be relevant in your specific niche, but for some businesses, it can have huge money-making and lead conversion potential.

  1. Referral Systems

Reviews and referrals are the new way people are learning about your business before they buy. An estimated 71% of online shoppers are now looking at what others have to say before they buy. That’s why customer referrals are one of the most powerful selling and marketing tools available for your business, and tools that you should constantly make sure are reflecting a positive image about your business. The best referrals are genuine and come from truly satisfied customers. Building a steady stream of customer referrals will improve your reputation and credibility and attract new customers to your business. A study performed by The Wharton School of Business found that a referred customer is 18 percent more likely to stay with a company over time than the average, off-the-street customer.

  1. Free Classified Ads

Free classified ad websites can do wonders for promoting your website, services or even products. Free classified websites such as craigslistFree Ads Time or Classifieds for Free are at the top of a list of best 100 free classified website for posting ads. Search for the closest category in your niche and post your ads. Don’t forget to include and highlight your website’s URL, and make it easy for people to find your website link.

  1. Banner Advertisement Swaps

Banner ad swaps are a great way for you and another business to help each other increase traffic to your respective online businesses. The main idea is that you will show ads on a website and they will show their ads on yours.  Banner advertising is comparable to contextual advertising, where you choose the niche of the sites you want to target.  Unlike simple link swaps, which are often hard-coded directly to a page, banner exchange networks allow rotation of ads among many different sites, sometimes with the benefit of reaching targeted audience.

  1. Reciprocal links

I do not recommend abusing reciprocal links. Too many, and you can find yourself in trouble with Google. Before opting to use reciprocal links, make a quick search on reciprocal links rules and how you can use it to increase your website performance as opposed to harming your reputation with major search engines.

  1. E-mail Blasts

E-mail blasts are powerful, relevant, and can get you a lot of traffic which end in lead conversion. Add an opt-In form so that people who are interested in your blog, service or products subscribe to your marketing list through sign-up forms and are always informed of the latest news regarding your services. Opt-in forms can be pop-ups or embedded within the footer of your website. Utilize web-based email marketing service such as MailChimp to send an email or series of emails to a contact based on a specific campaign. Any distributed content can be created and measured in MailChimp, including automation, workflow, settings, scheduling, and content for distributing a series of automated emails.

  1. Joining Online Communities

Steve Jobs, once said “People with passion can change the world.” Whatever you are blogging about, you can always find enthusiasts who share the same passion. Leverage the community,  join groups on Facebook, create a community on your website and reach out to like-minded people all over the world through your blog.

  1. Content Marketing

There are as many types of content marketing as there are types of content. Content marketing can be in the form of infographics, webpages, podcasts, videos, books, presentations, audibles and motion graphics. There are many digital companies that offer marketing services, often paired with SEO or PR. If you can’t do it yourself and aren’t ready to manage hands-on, then you might need to consider hiring a digital agency.

  1. Guest Posts

“Guest posting” means writing and publishing an article on someone else’s website or blog. Guest posting is an extremely useful way to connect to people within your own niche and new readers who may not have been familiar with your content or services prior to your guest post. The most useful way you can make the most of guest-posting is by using backlinks. As time goes by, they raise your site’s Domain Authority and make you easier to find on search engines.

  1. Asking Clients to Review your Products / Services

Customer reviews are important because the vast majority of people today are listening to what others have to say about your business. If you have a Google My Business account, your customers can now see your overall star rating once five or more people review your business. This helps your company stand out from others when people are searching for products and services that you offer. Create a link that customers can click to leave a review of your business on Google, and actively encourage them to leave reviews. You can easily share the link with customers to encourage them to write reviews and rate your business. If reviews are negative, reach out to the client directly and see how the experience could have been made better. Clients are not out to get your business, and will most likely remove a negative review if they are attended to and heard.

Here are the 5 best ways to get consistent (and high quality) feedback from your customers:

  • Surveys
  • Feedback boxes
  • Reach out directly
  • User activity
  • Usability Tests
  1. Photo Sharing

Uploading images that are relevant to your business and enhance your brand identity will definitely increase traffic. Every image you upload should be tagged with a keyword and also have a Meta tag which helps search engines identify your image and include it in the search display for the user which will eventually appear in the image search result.

Conclusion

Your website promotion should be present anywhere online, and you don’t have to break the bank to get started. Remember –  it takes an average of 7 impressions to make 1 conversion, so make sure you are promoting your content where your audience is.
